U.S. Patent No. 8,801,051 B2 was issued to 4-Star Trailers on August 12, 2014. The patent applies to a uniquely designed slam latch which allows an equipped gate or partition to slam closed or opened from either side of the gate. The design was developed in conjunction with 4-Star's research into components designed to lessen the sound levels inside moving trailers. A key feature of the latch is the absence of any metal to metal contact between the gate and the latch. This substantially reduces the generation of vibrational noise within the latch.

U.S. Patent No. 8,684,645 B23 was issued to 4-Star Trailers on April 1, 2014. The patent applies to a removable gate which incorporates retractable members at both ends. The seat into which the retractable member in engaged is designed to eliminate movement of the retractable member within the the seat thereby substantially precluding the generation of vibrational noise. The retractable members act as latches holding the gate shut or as pivots around which the gate rotates. This configuration allows the gate to both pivot and latch from either end.

In addition to making gates swing from either end, the design allows the gate to be removed quickly and easily without the need for tools. The design encourages the use of the gate to alter a trailer's floor plan. A person, working alone, is able to easily relocate a gate by simply unlatching one end and rotating it to a different set of seats. By alternately changing the gate's pivot points the gate may be repositioned. An example of the use of this feature is to convert stall layouts from a side-by-side to a large box stall.
